About derby4europe

Welcome

We have created this website as a meeting-place for people in the Derby area who believe that the UK’s relationship with the European Union should be as close as possible. Many of us want the UK to rejoin the EU, but we also realise that not everyone sees this as practical, at least in the short run. Nevertheless we want to promote a close, cordial relationship with Europe, not just nation -to-nation but at every level. We want to rebuild European links that have been disrupted by Brexit; links that connected our institutions to Europe in many ways: businesses, schools, universities, local authorities, all aspects of our national life that were enriched by the EU connection and have suffered from the effects of Brexit. In particular, we want to promote links between Derby and Europe in as many ways as possible.

We aim to publicise and promote links with our European opposite numbers in communities across the continent. We will draw on existing links such as twin towns and we will advocate for new ones also. We hope to provide a link for our friends in Europe to communicate with us here in Derby, as well as vice versa. And we want to promote and celebrate the European-ness of our multicultural society.

The webmaster for the site belongs to the local branch of the European Movement, and is supported in this initiative by other members of the branch. However, this is not an exclusively European Movement website. We shall certainly support and publicise EM campaigns, but we will be happy to give a platform to other pro-EU, remainer, rejoiner and similar organizations.
